class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">A humanitarian worker is being monitored at a specialist hospital in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk\/london\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\">London<\/a> after potential exposure to the Ebola virus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">The UK resident was medically evacuated from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/congo\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\">Democratic Republic of the Congo<\/a> (DRC) where the worker had been treating patients with the disease, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">UKHSA said the person was evacuated as a \u201chighly precautionary measure\u201d, adding: \u201cThe individual is not currently displaying any symptoms and remains well, but as a precautionary measure they have been evacuated on a flight chartered solely for the evacuation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">\u201cThey are now being assessed and monitored in isolation by infectious disease specialists at a London hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">The agency said the incubation period of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/ebola\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\">Ebola<\/a> ranges from two to 21 days and the individual will be closely monitored and is required to isolate throughout this period.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">There are no confirmed cases of Ebola in the UK and the risk to the general public remains low.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">Richard Pebody, the director of epidemic and emerging infections at the UKHSA, said: \u201cThis individual has been transferred out of an abundance of caution and we\u2019re pleased they remain well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">Last month, a patient suspected of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk-news\/2026\/jun\/30\/patient-being-tested-for-suspected-ebola-virus-at-glasgow-hospital\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">having the Ebola virus at a Glasgow hospital<\/a> tested negative.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">Precautionary measures were taken after the patient was admitted to the Queen Elizabeth University hospital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">An <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2026\/jul\/10\/visualised-how-conflict-aid-cuts-and-health-worker-attacks-are-helping-ebola-spread-in-drc\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">outbreak of the disease<\/a> in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda in May was declared a public health emergency of international concern by the World Health Organization (WHO).<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">The virus is transmitted to people from wild animals and then spreads in the human population through direct contact with the blood, secretions, organs or other
