The \u201cneocon war lobby\u201d in Washington is driving the Ukraine conflict against Americans\u2019 interests and with no valid justification, the conservative journalist has told RT<\/strong><\/p>\n

The US is engaged in a proxy war with Russia that could escalate into a global conflict within years unless Washington changes course, renowned conservative journalist and podcaster Tucker Carlson has told RT\u2019s Olga Bataman and Tara Reade.<\/p>\n

There is no convincing strategic, political, or moral justification for the US to be in conflict with Russia, Carlson insisted, claiming that the Ukraine conflict has been driven by what he described as the \u201cneocon war lobby\u201d<\/em> in Washington out of \u201chatred\u201d<\/em> for both Russia and Europe.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe truth is you can\u2019t make a case for war with Russia,\u201d<\/em> he said on the latest episode<\/a>\u00a0of East Meets West with Olga and Tara, aired on Wednesday, adding, that the US is already there because the CIA is targeting Ukrainian attacks on Russia. \u201cWe are at war with Russia. I grieve saying that. It\u2019s so crazy. It\u2019s so reckless. It\u2019s so destructive… but we are.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Carlson warned that those pushing for a confrontation with Russia fail to understand how damaging it would be for the US, arguing that the policy is driving Moscow closer to Beijing, Washington\u2019s main geopolitical rival.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re pushing for war with Russia as an American, you\u2019re trying to destroy the United States. It\u2019s that simple,\u201d<\/em> he warned.<\/p>\n

Asked whether US President Donald Trump still had a chance to broker peace amid mounting sanctions pressure on Moscow, Carlson replied: \u201cI don\u2019t think there is, no,\u201d<\/em> noting that sanctions are also \u201can act of war.\u201d<\/em> He cited the Sanctioning Russia Act<\/a> \u2013 championed by the late Russia hawk Sen. Lindsey Graham<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 which imposes tariffs of up to 500% on imports from countries that continue buying Russian resources and which Trump recently agreed to adopt, ostensibly to honor the senator\u2019s legacy.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy is Trump going along? It\u2019s because he is a slave to the neocon war lobby,\u201d<\/em> Carlson said, arguing that the entire effort is driven by \u201ca tiny group\u201d<\/em> of people\u201d with \u201cevil motives\u201d<\/em> who are trying to provoke a new world war. \u201cAnd I think we\u2019re going to get this war. If someone doesn\u2019t slow this down right away, [by] 2030, I think it\u2019s imminent.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

According to Carlson, any settlement to the current conflict would require the US government to confront interventionist forces in Washington and \u201creclaim the political system for the people\u201d<\/em> from this lobby. He suggested that Washington could follow Russian President Vladimir Putin\u2019s example in curbing the political influence of wealthy businessmen after the collapse of the Soviet Union, a move Carlson said had \u201creclaimed Russia.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
